Cillit bang bathroom cleaner

I bought a bottle of Cilit to tackle the bathroom tiles in my new house which looked as though they hadn’t been cleaned in years!

Cillit claims to get rid of dirt and limescale, and since the bottle suggests only leaving the liquid on for five minutes, I think this stuff is pretty strong.
* * * * *

Having used it on my bathroom I can tell you that the scent of the cleaner is strong, and after a while it does start to sting your eyes a little if you leave it on too long and stay too close to it. It’s not an unpleasant smell though.

What amazed me the most however was the cleaning power of this stuff! The tiles were so bad I’d considered ripping them out and starting again but Cillit has saved me the huge job of doing this! It didn’t offer any results when it came to the mould covered sealant I need to attend to, but then that hardly surprised me and I don’t feel at all short changed knowing I still need to rip the sealant out.
Using it is not quite as easy as the TV adverts would have you believe; I did need to scrub to bring the tiles up to a clean shine but as a bathroom cleaner, I’d definitely give this 10/10!

Comfort Tropical Fabric Softener

I received a sample of comfort tropical through the mail when I entered a competition on their site. The adverts on TV promise a tropical scent every time you move and so after washing my clothes with the comfort softener, I wanted to test this out!

It took me a while to figure out the scent I was smelling was on me and not on the laundry I had left out drying on radiators. I wasnt smelling too much ‘tropical scent’ going on, but it was fresh and the freshness did linger for a long time! I’d definitely buy this stuff again -  my clothes did smell laundry clean for quite a while!

1001 Carpet Cleaner

With 2 dogs plus the usual spills at home, I’m grateful when I can find a product that works! I tested 1001 carpet cleaner as the pet stain remover attracted me. We have very few accidents here but I like to be prepared if we do!

So far I’ve tried removing dog sick, coffee and make up (eye shadow and blusher in powder form!) with 1001 and am most impressed at how well it works! You spray a small amount on to the dirty area and gently rub in with a sponge. Once it’s dry, vaccuum as normal and you wont notice you’d had a spill. I’d definitely recommend you get some of this and would mark it 10/10!

Yorkshire ‘Hard water’ Tea

Yorkshire tea have sent me a sample of their ‘hard water’ tea.

Normally, when it comes to tea I’m not a fussy person as long as it’s strong. My usual brands are Tetley and PG Tips, although I cant tell the difference so dont expect to with Yorkshire Tea either!

I’m curious to know what difference a special ‘hard water tea’ makes to the taste.

Once made up, the tea is just how I like it but if I’m honest tastes and smells no different to ordinary tea. Prices are about the same for 40 tea bags so it doesnt get any extra points there. Dont discount these tea bags, but dont go out of your way to buy them either!

Nippon, Ant Killer

Nippon has been the talk of the shop lately, as ‘the’ powder to buy for wiping out ants! It’s a good job the conversation came up really, because a week later I’m cleaning out the cupboard under the stairs and find ants have made it their home!

Nippon is relatively cheap, priced around £3.50 for a huge bottle which will last you goodness knows how long. The powder says it’s effective, yet it’s still safe to use around pets and children – a bonus in my book as 2 dogs live with me. After applying the powder directly to the area affected, I wait 24 hours before checking for signs of ant life.

This stuff works. The ants have gone and the problem has been solved, all without breaking the bank!

Snack a Jacks, Caramel!

Being honest, I was a little reluctant to try these.  I’ve eaten snacks like these before and they’ve often been tasteless. They may be low in fat but in the past, they’ve tasted like it! The packaging is enticing though, colourful and bright, and looking at it I could be convinced there are good tasting treats inside!

After tasting a few I’m quite impressed! They’re a lot nicer than I thought they would be, although they still wouldnt be my first choice of snack. The caramel is strong which makes them pleasant, but they do taste extremely savoury and a lot of the caramel taste is masked by the savoury flavour.

Over all… I wouldnt turn them down if they were offered to me, but at the same time…I dont think I’d go out of my way to buy them!

Nelly Furtado, Loose

Nelly Furtado has been around for years, yet it’s only recently she’s sparked my interest. I first started paying attention when she released Maneater, and from there I’ve enjoyed all 4 of the singles she’s recently released from the ‘Loose’ album.

Joining these singles is a mixture of pop and RnB that’s difficult not to sing along to if these genres of music are to your taste! I only need to listen to the CD 3 times to be singing along to songs I’d not previously heard before! The songs sung in Spanish add an interesting extra too, and although I might not understand the words, the tunes are catchy and easy enough to hum along to!

Overall, a definite 10/10  – even hubby was happy to listen to it in the car, although the score does assume you enjoy this type of music!

Heaven milk truffle bar

I’ve just received a new bar of chocolate made by Nestle – Heaven milk truffle. The packaging looks expensive and the cost of a bar of chocolate ranges from £1.39 – £2.49. At this price, I’m thinking the chocolate is aimed at real chocoholics looking for an intense chocolate rush!

Opening the packet I’m a little disappointed to see how thin the chocolate squares are! That’s probably me just being greedy though ;-) The chocolate is absolutely gorgeous. Rich chocolate and a praline filling. One square just isnt enough and I end up eating 4 before I can safely say I love this stuff!

It will be a definite buy in the future, but probably for when I’m home alone on an evening and want a treat I wont be expected to share, haahaa!

Smart high lighting kits

Last Sunday I decided to try out a new high lighting kit – Smart high lights. The kit is professional looking with a cap, hook, mixing bowl and brush, gloves, colour and mixer, and some shampoo. The instructions are in colour and are informative giving the impression a salon created look could easily be recreated in your bathroom.

I put the cap on and following the instructions began to pull strands of hair through the holes in the cap. This isnt as easy as it sounds. It took several attempts to pull enough strands through each hole to look like I’d be making a difference when I applied the colour, and because of the nature of the cap, I was slipping the hook into the holes and a lot of the time wasnt catching any hair to pull through! Maybe if I’d enlisted the help of a friend to stand over me they would of had better luck but after 10 minutes I’d only managed to pull hair through 5 or 6 of the holes! Getting to the back of my head would have been nearly impossible too, despite the picture of a model managing it in the instructions!

Giving up, the cap came off, with a plan to use an old high lighting comb I’d received free in a kit a few years back. 48 hours before I’d done my skin test and my colour test and knew 35 minutes would leave me with a decent colour change. I applied the colour where I wanted my blonde streaks to sit, and waited for 30 minutes before impatiently washing the colour off! The end result is natural and my hair is looking healthy. My only complaint would be the impracticality of expecting a member of the public to be able to use a high lighting cap like the pro’s!
